Is Forbes.com Selling PageRank?

Check out my pal Jason’s post called ‘Is Forbes.com Selling PageRank?’
On his blog ‘Ask Jason Marketing’ he takes the following view:
‘Let’s just see if Google plays the PR Smackdown game with an even hand or if they just hate paid bloggers.’
There are two questions I’m asking myself:
- will we ever get back our PR?
- why does Google do this?

  1. Well, I think there is nothing wrong with paid links penalty. People are buying links to manipulate SERPs so it’s normal if Google doesn’t want us to buy links anymore. Google punished link sellers because it is the only way to stop “link sales” madness. Even a 12-year-old kid can get good SERPs if he has enough budget to buy links.

  2. Thats why google has such great results, you can’t just pay for some payed links. You can put any old crappy site up there and get good rankings anymore.

  3. I hear everyone speaking about this big pr smack from Google, but many bloggers I know were not hit that hard in reality. These people lost maybe one point on their pr, but I have yet to speak to anyone who lost several points.
Personally I am with Bellingham Realtors that Google is good because they are trying to stop those who try and buy there way to the top in any way other than sponsered ads. This keeps the sites relevant to my search, and I appreciate it.

  4. Survival on the Internet is a good game. I fully agree with Google about he wants to keep up the quality of the search results. Question is, how Google could really control if a link was purchased or not. At least he can forbid advertising link trade by his AdWords service.
